As designers, whether apparel or home furnishing, fabric is often the cornerstone of your work. Things like color, weight, structure, and hand all come into play when creating your collection. In light of the fact that I chose to focus my time and attention on the apparel end of the textile spectrum, I tend to write about fashion-y stuff, unknowingly excluding or snubbing my under-appreciated home interior based readers. And for that I apologize.
In light of this, I made a conscience effort today to search out an interesting textile design company that deals primarily in fabrics for home interior use. So if you're a furniture maker, home accessories creator, drapery designer, and so forth, you should keep reading.
, a company based in Berkeley California, "designs [their] fabrics by dipping into [their] textile library and archive of historical textiles. With a focus on the interplay of weave, texture, and color, they work with master craftsmen in India to dye, weave, and/or embroider their wide range of natural cottons, linens and silks. The fabrics run from lightweight sheers for curtains to heavyweight twill stripes for upholstery."
From the looks of the website the fabrics are quite vibrant, beautifully executed, and worth investigating if you are in the process of designing a truly unique home accessory.
So there you have it. An interior based company spotlight. Now I feel better.
