A textile topic that I don't often cover is Wall Coverings. I'm not sure why. I love wallpaper. Beautiful, colorful, and often times playful, it's such a lovely addition to a room.
When I was in school, ummm... a few years ago...., not too many of my print designer friends were choosing to head in this direction. I'm not sure if there just wasn't too much of a job market in the wallpaper industry or they simply preferred to design prints for clothing. Regardless, I feel like today there seems to be more textile folks entering this area of the industry. Why is that? Advances in technology, perhaps? I mean there are all kinds of cool "wall stickers" and home interior mural art that allows a more trendy and funky approach to home design.
In an attempt to highlight this often neglected area of the textile industry, I wanted to share with you all , an Australian company that works with some amazing textile designers to create some pretty awesome wallpaper.
Are you a wallpaper designer? How'd you get started? What do you love about it? We'd love to hear from you!
